speaking of movies
saturday night i watched "war of the worlds" on hbo. it was free. good thing too, because i would have wanted my money back. and, as it is, i want those 2 hours of my life back. cuz, it was bad. as in, made no sense.
.
like, we wouldn't have seen these enormous mechanical beings buried under the surface of the earth? where'd they hide em, the core? and since they were watching us and then hatched this plan.... do you think we woulda noticed if they came to earth and buried a bunch of stuff? plus, wouldn't their high-tech instruments on these machines have detected the amoebas or whatever it was that suddenly killed them? and they needed our blood to, what? spray onto roots? roots for what? what did they use for blood before they got to our planet? and if they needed the blood so badly why'd they go vaporizing everything when they first got here? and if these things needed the blood, how did they live all that time underground?
.
then there's the acting. sheesh. why did the teenage son suddenly need to run after the troops to aide in the fighting? utterly moronical, as there was virtually no set up for that other than the kid being a punk who listens to load metal music and can't comb his hair. that in mind he'd probably be the last guy to want to run into that situation, despite that he also had ne weapon or combat training. and then the whole place blows up but *poof* he's magically back home in the end, with no explanation why.
.
i'll steer clear of tom in the movie, since theres not going to be an explanation for that anyway....
.
and although i like dakota fanning, what was up with her character? she's a normal kid except every once in a while she starts shrieking like a maniac? does she have turrets?
.
all in all, pretty sad, even for an alien movie.... with no real point of message. i'd say scrap all the sci-fi-high-tech effects, and stick to something good like "signs"

Really - all you needed to say was "Tom Cruise, saving the world? Who's gonna believe that?" :o)
I would stick to the original. That scared the crap out of me.
