cubby wubby was a bear

So, i'm pretty sure i jinxed the cubs. I went to the milwaukee game on april 28, which was rainy and kinda cold, and they lost 16-2. and they've only won one game since. ok, i don't really think i jinxed em, but it's interesting to see the reaction of cubs fans. especially mark here at work, who got so discouraged that he stopped wearing his cubs hat. he has a schedule on his wall, and colors the wins pink and the losses yellow highlighter. and today he came in and just colored it yellow, without even checking the score.

i'm reading a book right now that has an interesting commentary about how basically our entire culture is about comparing ourselves to each other. and that sports fits right into that - it's about believing one team is better than the other. and it makes me wonder - why are there winners and losers in life? why can't we just enjoy playing the game?
