caffeine-nation

on august 17 i stopped drinking pop. not just the diet coke, but everything all together. i just had a feeling it was having effects on my health that i couldn't even really see/feel. if you drink regular coke, you get calories, high fructose corn syrup, and caffeine. if you drink diet coke, you get aspartame and caffeine. if you drink diet caffeine free - well you still get the aspartame. (not to mention the phosphoric acid). and yes, i had an addiction to it. a relationship, if you will. pathetic, i know. i would average maybe three cans of diet coke a day- sometimes more, and sometimes less. i knew i needed to break the cycle.... so i went "cold turkey." (since i have problems with 'things in moderation') but i was sad.... because i was mourning my pop.

it was interesting to see the effects. after about 20 hours, the headache began, which lastest non-stop for another 24 hours, and then started to subside. i went a full week, and then some emotional crap caught up with me and all i wanted in the WORLD was a diet coke. IS THAT SO MUCH TO ASK, PEOPLE???? it tasted funny.

i had one a day for three days, and then none yesterday. i know it's not realistic to just never ever have soda again. especially cuz i like it! but i'm hoping i can learn the whole 'moderation' thing - and have a few a week. not a few a day. which i'm hoping will keep me from feeling so addicted to it. but, it's like, how much is the right amount? still trying to figure it out....

i know i'm not the only one in this predicament, since most of the country is hopped up on caffeine. but i'm tired of being dependant on it.....

I gave up coffee about a month ago. I did get the headaches in the mornings, but I've gotten over it by now. I was never that big of a pop drinker (maybe 3 cans of diet coke a week)but I can certainly understand your struggle. Good job on kicking the habit!
