zooventure

a happier post, to balance last night’s entry. amidst the havoc of last week, i had a supremely awesome day last wednesday. I took the day off of work and catny and i headed to the zoo. it was an absolutely beautiful day – warm and sunny but with a cool breeze. i could have walked around that zoo forever... i suppose eventually i would have gotten tired... we ran back and forth, trying to catch the animals at their best, and we succeeded with the lion, wolves, and bears. (sorry, no tiger. the booger wouldn’t come out) we went with the intention of meeting up with susan to feed the rhinoceroses. (rhinoceri?) : ) and we did- 3 of them! my god they’re HUGE. scary huge. but soft. what looks like a rubber tire is extremely soft skin. i loved petting them. it seemed so other-wordly. with their big horns it felt a little like the triceratops scene in jurassic park (although without the digging through the poo bit) also, the mom rhino kept making mucus-y snorting sounds and i totally thought that she was going to sneeze – and then i’d be covered in rhino snot all day. luckily i was spared that experience.

as if that weren’t enough to completely make my day – we also fed the 2 elephants and 3 giraffes. the big giraffe was hilarious. he had come over while i was turned away getting a piece of bread from the bucket. i turned back, and AH! he was looking at me eye to eye. he scared the crap outta me. he let me pet his face, and it was much coarser than i was expecting. such amazing animals... awesome creations.... fabulous day.

You forgot to mention that all of the animals felt the need to drool all of me. Thanks a lot animals.
I agree though. A very happy day.

A rhino's horn is keratin (i.e. fingernails, hair), not ivory. Rhino horns are made of fused, fibrous constructions that are solid all the way through. The fibers are hairs that are attached to the nose by skin supported by a raised, roughened area on the skull.

As an aside, you shouldn't be crying yourself to sleep, especially over dumb boys.

I don't know if you go back and read new comments to older blogs, but i just wanted to say that Susan is MY friend, not Cathy's! :) So I guess you have me to thank since if I hadn't become friends with Susan 18 years ago, you would never have been able to pet the animals.

By the way, why do all of your blogs revolve around animals?

TRUE - she is YOUR friend. but as you had not posted anything to the blog yet... "Colleen" remained a mystery... and besides, it's easier than saying "my best friend's sister's friend" : )

yeah.... i dunno.... i've noticed that too....
