we fought the jellies.

i know, i know, i'm weeeeeellll overdue for a post. sorry. january has been a frustrating month for me, in a lot of respects i feel i'm just trying to keep my head above water.

speaking of.... last weekend i went down to visit catny in ft. lauderdale. the weather was absolutely wonderful - 78-80 degrees, sunny, occasional clouds. awesome. now, i love it when we go to the beach with chris and bree n friends, but it seems like there's always an adventure when it's just me and cathy. that's when we see the really cool stuff. like lobsters, turtles, dolphins, sand dollars, coquinas, etc. and this trip was no different. sunday cat and i went out to deerfiled beach, where we came across a formidable army of portuguese man-of-war jellyfish. and by formidable we're talking about seeing one washed up on the sand every oh, i don't know, 500 feet maybe? but often enough to make the water seem like a very dangerous place we were likely to DIE! : ) but the waves........ were so biiiig, and coming in fast..... i just couldn't stay away. so. although it was, er, slightly chilly water for a swim, we braved the waves, armed with the knowledge that these particular jellies float on top the water, so we should be able to see em coming. potenially a stupid idea, but the theory proved useful, as we did see one when we were in the water. swim away!!!! : ) ha ha ha. it was great.
